RSS Staffing is seeking Extrusion Operators for a facility in Columbus, OH that specializes in producing top-quality food containers and packaging. Products include plastic plates and dinnerware, paper cone cups, microwave safe containers, to-go containers, catering supplies, and compostable products. This is a fantastic temp-to-hire opportunity with the leader in premium quality, single-use food packaging products.

 

PAY:

Starts at $15.71-$25.52/hour; pay commensurate with experience

 

HOURS:

Employees must be able to work all shifts.

Day shift hours are 6am-6pm

Night shift hours are 6pm-6am

Employees work 3-4 days per week, 12-hour shifts, and every-other weekend.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Good machine set-up procedures and practices including all necessary adjustments and operational balances to achieve maximum quality and productivity consistent with safety and minimum spoilage
  • Meets quality and quantity of all production
  • Understanding of all current Q.C. standards and procedures
  • Perform required duties needed without direct continual supervision, promptly report product deficiencies to Q.C. and production supervisor
  • Making timely reports on equipment problems, quality and spoilage variances and quantities produced
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping in the assigned areas in accordance with AIB standards
  • Operate industrial equipment and obtain certification within 10 days from date of hire
  • Learn and operate extruders within defined specifications and without assistance
  • Recognize heating/cooling problems with the machines and report to the Supervisor
  • Start up and shut down each extruder unassisted
  • Assist in "stringing up" on each of the extruders
  • Job/Color changes with minimal amount of scrap
  • Learn and perform "adjustments" to the die
  • Monitor feed and mixing systems for proper operation
  • Learn correct formulas and rates for each product type
  • Match and distinguish colors from samples
  • Produce good tight rolls
  • Produce each roll to correct width
  • Learn to "fire the screen" properly
  • Put rolls away in roll storage without damage
  • Learn and understand silo readings and the material held in each silo
  • Cut, gauge, weigh, and document "samples" properly and accurately
  • Able to understand and accurately complete required paperwork: production report (weight/gauge averages), condition report (samples), and line production report (total pounds produced, scrap produced, running and downtime information)
  • Fill additive and color hoppers
  • Operate grinder
  • Segregate color and match correct grinder pipe to the proper silo when grinding
  • Maintain good housekeeping in your work area always
  • Work overtime as workload demands
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including all safety regulations
  • Follow Supervisor's instructions/directions as given
  • Demonstrate effective lockout/ tag out procedures on all equipment
  • Must perform change over's, startups, preventative maintenance, lubrication and adjustments to equipment
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job

  • Ability to work 12-hour shift
  • Ability to operate a forklift truck for 10 1/2 hours per shift
  • Ability to climb a ladder
  • Ability to stand and walk continuously for 10 1/2 hours per shift
  • Ability to perform job assignments outside (silos, etc.)
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. repetitively throughout the day

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates must maintain a good attendance attitude
  • Candidates must maintain a good safety record
  • Must have Extrusion/Thermoforming background
  • High School education required
  • Mechanical aptitude is preferred
  • Ability to obtain industrial equipment certification within 10 days from hire date
  • Ability to speak and understand the English language is preferred
  • Basic Math skills
  • Ability to use a calculator
  • Ability to read instrumentation gauges
  • Ability to understand and determine "differentiation pressures" from a pressure controller.
  • Ability to recognize, identify, and solve problems with the machines
  • Ability to use common sense
  • Ability to maintain level head and thought process during a crisis
  • Ability to differentiate between "good" quality and "bad" quality
